Noir Des Carmes Melon is a rare French heirloom variety with dark green, deeply ribbed skin named after the Carmelite monks who preserved them. This variety was first mentioned in The Universal Gardener and Botanist by Thomas Mawe and John Abercrombie in 1778. This variety is a true cantaloupe, not the muskmelon types sold in supermarkets.

The ripening cantaloupe is dark green to black, and the rind turns mottled yellow when fully ripe. Produces several fruits per vine, around 2 - 4 lbs each.

Melons are a rich source of potassium, vitamin A, and vitamin C, as well as potassium and fiber.

Melons need good pollination to ensure that you have ample fruit set. Plant with lots of herbs and flowers to bring in pollinators.

Starter will be in a 4" reusable nursery pot.
