The Cherokee Purple heirloom tomato is a beefsteak variety of tomatoes that are a dusky rose color with green shoulders and a deep, robust flavor. Cherokee Purple tomatoes originated in Tennessee's mountains in the 1800s and were cultivated by the Cherokee Native Americans 100 years prior.
The Cherokee Purple tomato variety is indeterminate, growing 4-6 feet long, which will need staking as it grows. Expect about 20 tomatoes per vine, weighing approximately 12oz each, ideal for slicing, canning, and making sauces.
Interplant with basil, marigolds, calendula, onions, garlic, chives, thyme, rosemary, and oregano to improve flavor, increase harvest, repel harmful pests, and attract beneficial insects like bees and ladybugs.
Starter will be in a 4" reusable nursery pot.
