Black Oil Sunflowers are a stunning addition to any garden, growing up to 10 feet tall. They prefer full sun exposure, and the tall stalks provide a climbing trellis for vining plants like cucumbers and shade for others that are heat intolerant.  Sunflowers attract hummingbirds, bees, and ladybugs, which are essential for vegetable crop yields. They also help suppress weeds and excrete a substance that prevents harmful fungi growth in the soil.

Black Oil Sunflower seeds can be harvested for a healthy snack high in protein, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants, and the heads are a delicious grilled delicacy. They are loaded with vitamins like Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Folate, Choline, vitamin B6, vitamin C and vitamin E, and contain minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc.

They are an easy-to-grow top dress to add to livestock feed or bird feeders.

They also have antimicrobial properties, are used to treat infections, and are known to have a positive effect on cardiovascular health and for lowering blood pressure.
