The Black Krim heirloom tomato is considered one of the best-tasting varieties, consistently winning top awards. Krim is the Ukrainian word for Crimea, the peninsula where this tomato originated. British, French, and Italian soldiers collected and took the seeds of the Black Krim and other tomato varieties back home to their families after the end of the 1856 Crimean War. They were passed down and shared among the soldiers' families but didn't reach mass popularity until being discovered by Lars Olov Rosenstrom of Bromma, Sweden who introduced them to the wider public in 1990.
The Black Krim tomato variety is indeterminate, growing 4-6 feet long, and needs staking as it grows. Expect prolific yields of tomatoes weighing 10-16oz each that are ideal for slicing, canning, and making sauces.
Interplant with basil, marigolds, calendula, onions, garlic, chives, thyme, rosemary, and oregano to improve flavor, increase harvest, repel harmful pests, and attract beneficial insects like bees and ladybugs.
Starter will be in a 4" reusable nursery pot.
